Sony is offering a system software update for Digital HD Video Camera Recorder HDR-CX900/E.

Improvements:

How to check the System Software version 

  1. Select Menu > Setup > General Settings > Version.
  2. The System Software version is displayed.

    If the Version menu in General Settings of your camcorder is version 3.00, upgrade is not required

  • Mac OS X v.10.6 – 10.10

  • CPU: Intel processor (Core Solo and Core Duo processors are no longer supported.)
  • USB cable supplied with the camera
    Note: Update functionality is not guaranteed with any other USB cable.
  • Please close all other application software before updating the system software.
  • Prevent your computer from sleeping beforehand.

Important Notes:

  • When performing the system software update, please use a fully charged rechargeable battery pack NP-FV50(HDR-CX900/HDR-CX900E) or the AC adaptor.
  • Do not remove the battery pack or AC adaptor during the update; otherwise, the camera may become inoperable due to the sudden power shutdown.
  • Remove the memory card from the camera beforehand.
  • Prevent your computer from going into Sleep Mode beforehand, because it takes approximately 15 minutes to perform the system software update. For details on how to do this, consult the manufacturer.

Install

Details

  1. Download the update file

    Click on the file Update_CAMHDRCX900V300.dmg to begin download. Please save the downloaded file onto the Desktop of your computer (recommended).
  2. Start Firmware Updater
    1. Do not connect the camera yet at this point. Double-click Update_CAMHDRCX900V300.dmg to start up Firmware Updater.
    2. Double-click the Update_CAMHDRCX900V300 icon which appears on the Desktop.
    3. Double-click the FirmwareUpdater icon.
    4. To load a kernel extension, the message prompts you to allow the application to make changes.
      Type the password for the administrative account.

    5. Firmware Updater starts up.

       
  3. Check the USB connection mode
    1. Turn on the camera.
    2. According to the Firmware Updater instructions, select Menu > Setup > Connection > USB Connect Setting on the camera, and check if Mass Storage is selected.
    If a mode other than Mass Storage is selected, select Mass Storage.
  4. Connect the camera to the computer

    Remove the memory card from the camera, and then connect the camera to the computer with the supplied USB cable.

      Note: When the camera is connected to the computer, the LCD screen of the camera turns off. Please proceed to the next step.

      If the LCD screen of the camera dose not turn off, please try the following methods.
      - Disconnect the USB cable from the camera, then reconnect the USB cable.
      - If there are another USB terminal with the computer, reconnect the USB cable to another USB terminal.
    2. Click Next on Firmware Updater.

      Note: From this step onwards, never turn off the camera until the firmware upgrade is completed.
  5. Check if update is required
    1. After confirming the screens above, click Next. The current version and the version after the upgrade appear on the lower left part of the screen.

      Upgrade is required, click Next.


      Note: If Current version is Ver. 3.00, the upgrade is not required. According to the message, stop the USB connection and click Finish. Turn off the camera, remove the battery pack or the AC adaptor, re-insert the battery pack or connect the AC adaptor and then turn on the camera.

  6. Reset the camera
    1. Screen below appears.
    2. Press OK on the panel.
      Note: The screen turns off when the center of the control wheel is pressed. Please proceed to the next step.
    3. Click Next on Firmware Updater.
  7. Start the update
    1. After resetting, reconnection of the camera is verified, and the screen below appears.

    2. Click Run to start the upgrade. The progress bar appears while upgrading (approximately 15 minutes).

      Note: Never turn off the camera nor disconnect the USB cable while upgrading.
  8. Complete the update
    1. When the update is completed, the camera will automatically restart. “Recovering data. Please wait…” may be displayed for a few minutes before restarting. Make sure the camera is turned on and wait until the LCD screen appears again. Click Finish when the LCD screen appears.
    2. Disconnect the USB cable.
  9. Check the System Software version

    Follow the instruction to confirm the System Software version is Ver. 3.00.

    Select Menu > Setup > General Settings  > Version.
    The system software version is displayed.
