Sony is offering a system software update for Digital 4K Video Camera Recorder FDR-AX100 / FDR-AX100E.
Improvements:
In addition to SDXC card, the camera records XAVCS format video with SDHC card.
- When shooting movies in XAVC S format, it requires SD Speed Class10, or UHS Speed Class U1 or faster. (When recording in 100 Mbps or more, UHS Speed Class U3 is required.)
- When an SDHC memory card is used to record XAVC S movies over extended periods of time, the recorded movies will be divided into files of 4 GB. The divided files can be integrated into a single file using PlayMemories Home.
Benefits provided from previous updates includes:
- XAVC S 4K 100Mbps addition
- Capture still picture from video contents shot by XAVC S
(Only available for FDR-AX100) - Trimming playback improvement
- Auto focus performance improvement
- Focus tracking performance to the person
How to check the System Software version
- Select Menu > Setup > General Settings > Version.
- The System Software version is displayed. If the Version is version 3.10, this upgrade is not required.

Note: The upgrade can be performed only when the remaining battery level is (three marks) or more. We recommend that you use a fully charged battery or the AC adaptor. - USB support cable supplied with the camera
Note: Update functionality is not guaranteed with any other USB cable.

Details
Important Notes:
- Please close all other application software before upgrading the System Software.
- When performing the system software update, please use a fully charged rechargeable battery pack NP-FV70 or the AC adaptor AC-L200.
- Do not remove the battery or AC adaptor during the update; otherwise, the camera may become inoperable due to the sudden power shutdown.
- Remove the memory card from the camera beforehand.
- Download the update file
Download the file to your computer. Please save the downloaded file onto the Desktop of your computer (recommended).
For Windows8.1 and Windows10 users:
Under the initial settings of Internet Explorer, the update file will be saved in the Downloads folder. Click the Desktop tile from the Start screen and find the downloaded file in the Downloads folder by using Explorer. - Start the System Software Updater
Close all currently running programs on your computer, then double click Update_FDRAX100V310.exe to start up System Software Updater.
- Check the USB connection mode
- Turn on the camera.
- According to the System Software Updater instructions, select Menu > Setup > Connection > USB Connect Setting on the camera, then check if Mass Storage is selected. If a mode other than Mass Storage is selected, select Mass Storage.
- Connect the camera to the computer
Remove the memory card from the camera beforehand.- Connect the camera to the computer with the supplied USB cable.
Note: When the camera is connected to the computer, the LCD screen of the camera turns off. Please proceed to the next step.
If the computer cannot find the camera, the message g Could not find the camera for this update.h appears on the computer display. Try the following if this happens.- Disconnect the USB cable and connect it again.
- If the computer has multiple USB terminals, try with the other terminals. (Your computer may have some USB terminals on the backside.)
- Confirm is displayed on the task tray at the lower right corner of the computer screen.
Note: is not displayed on the task tray, please proceed to the next step. - After confirming the above, click Next on the Firmware Updater. The below screen appears on the Firmware Updater.

Note: From now on, do not turn off the camera until the system software update is completed.
- Connect the camera to the computer with the supplied USB cable.
- Check if the update is required
- After confirming the LCD monitor of the camera, click Next. The current version and the version after the upgrade appear on the below screen.
Upgrade is required
Note: If the below screen appears, the upgrade is not required. According to the message, stop the USB connection and click Finish. Turn off the camera, remove the battery pack or the AC adaptor, re-insert the battery pack or connect the AC adaptor, then then turn on the camera again.

- After confirming Current version is Ver. 3.00 or earlier, click Next.
- After confirming the LCD monitor of the camera, click Next. The current version and the version after the upgrade appear on the below screen.
- Reset the camera
- Click on the task tray at the lower right corner of the computer screen to stop the USB connection.
Note: Please keep the USB cable connected even after stopping the USB connection on the computer with the above operation.
Note: If is not displayed on the task tray, please proceed to the next step. - Press OK on the panel.
Note: The screen turns off when the center of the control wheel is pressed. Please proceed to the next step. - Click Next on the Firmware Updater.
- Click on the task tray at the lower right corner of the computer screen to stop the USB connection.
- Start the update
- After resetting, reconnection of the camera is verified, then the below screen appears.
- Click Run to start the update. The progress bar appears while updating (approximately 15 minutes)
Note: Do not turn off the camera or disconnect the USB cable while updating.

- Complete the update
- When the update is completed, the camera will automatically restart. Recovering data. Please wait... may be displayed for a few minutes before restarting. Make sure the camera is turned on and wait until the LCD screen appears again. Click Finish when the LCD screen appears and disconnect the USB cable.
- Click on the task tray at the lower right corner of the computer screen to stop the USB connection.
Note: If is not displayed on the task tray, please proceed to the next step. - Disconnect the USB cable.
- When the update is completed, the camera will automatically restart. Recovering data. Please wait... may be displayed for a few minutes before restarting. Make sure the camera is turned on and wait until the LCD screen appears again. Click Finish when the LCD screen appears and disconnect the USB cable.
- Check the System Software version
Follow the instruction to confirm the System Software version is Ver. 3.10.
Select Menu > Setup > General Settings > Version on the camera. The system software version is displayed.
