    Thank you for your continued interest in Sony products.
    Sony is offering a firmware update for Interchangeable Lens Camera (SLT-A58).

    Improvements:

    • Added support for Hindi.

    Check the firmware version

          Note: This update is intended for ILCA-77M2 cameras that currenltly have a System Firmware version 1.00.

    1. Select Menu > Setup (3) > Version on the camera.
    2. The System Firmware version is displayed.
    3. If current version is 1.01, update is not required. 

    Preparing for firmware update

    System requirements for a computer
    Supported OS

    • MAC OS X v10.6 - 10.10

    If you are using Mac OS X Ver.10.10, you need to run Driver Loader, a preparatory application, before updating the system software.

    If you are using Mac OS X Ver.10.9 or earlier, you do not need to run Driver Loader.

    Other system requirements

    • CPU Intel Processor (Core Solo and Core Duo processors are no longer supported)
    • Hard disk space: 200MB or more
    • RAM: 512MB or more
      * Please close all other application software before upgrading the firmware.

    • USB cable supplied with the camera
      Note: Update functionality is not guaranteed with any other USB cable.
    • Power source for the camera
      Fully charged rechargeable battery pack NP-FM500H or the AC Adaptor AC-PW10AM (Sold Separately).
      Note: The upgrade can be performed only when the remaining battery level is (three marks) or more. We recommend that you use a fully charged battery.

    Important Notes:

    • When performing the system software update, please use a fully charged rechargeable battery pack NP-FM500H or AC Adaptor AC-PW10AM (Sold Separately).
    • Do not remove the battery during the update; otherwise, the camera may become inoperable due to the sudden power shutdown.
    • Remove the memory card from the camera beforehand.
    • Prevent your computer from entering into Sleep Mode, the system software update takes approximately 10 minutes to perform.
    • Do not cover the Eyepiece sensors during the update, otherwise, the LCD monitor may switch to the Viewfinder mode. If you can not see anything on the LCD monitor, please press FINDER/LCD button.

    Install

    Details

    1. Download the file to your computer
      Please save the downloaded file onto the Desktop of your computer (recommended).
    2. Start Firmware Updater
      1. Double click Update_SLTA58V101.dmg to start up Firmware Updater.
        Do not connect the camera yet at this point.
      2. Update_SLTA58V101.dmg is expanded.
      3. Double-click the Firmware Updater icon.
      4. To load a kernel extension, the message prompts you to allow the application to make changes. Type the password for the administrative account.
         
      5. Firmware Updater starts up.
    3. Check the USB Connection Mode
      1. Turn ON the camera.
      2. Select Menu > Setup (2) > USB Connection
      3. Select Mass Storage

    4. Connect the camera to the computer
      Remove the memory card from the camera beforehand.
      1. Connect the camera to the computer with the supplied USB cable.
        Note: "USB Mode" appears on the LCD moitor of the camera.
      2. After confirming the above, click Next on Firmware Updater.
        The screen below appears on Firmware Updater.

        Note: When clicking on Next, do not cover the Eyepiece sensors during the update, otherwise, the LCD monitor may switch to the Viewfinder mode. If you can not see anything on the LCD monitor, please press FINDER/LCD button.

        Note: From this step onwards, never turn off the camera until the firmware upgrade is completed.
    5. Check if the update is required
      1. After confirming the screens on the above steps, click Next.
        The current version and the version after the upgrade appear on the lower left part of the screen.
      2. After confirming Current version is Ver. 1.01, click Next.

        Note: If Current version is Ver. 1.01, the upgrade is not required. According to the message, stop the USB connection and click Finish. Turn off the camera, remove the battery pack or the AC adaptor, reinsert the battery pack or the AC adaptor, and then turn on the camera again.
    6. Reset the camera
      1. The screen below appears.
         
      2. Press the center of the control button to execute.





        Note: The screen turns off when the center of the multi-selector is pressed. Please proceed to the next step.
      3. Click Next on Firmware Updater.
    7. Start the update
      1. After resetting, reconnection of the camera is verified, and the screen below appears.

      2. Click Run to start the upgrade. The progress bar appears while upgrading (approximately 10 minutes).

        Note: Never turn off the camera nor disconnect the USB cable while upgrading.
    8. Complete the update
      When the upgrade is completed, the camera will restart automatically. Make sure the camera is turned ON and wait until the LCD screen appears again. Click Finish when the LCD screen appears and disconnect the USB cable.
    9. Check the firmware version
      Follow the instruction to confirm the firmware version is Ver. 1.01.
      1. Press Menu > Setup (3) > Version on the camera.
      2. The System Firmware Ver. 1.01 is displayed.
