Features
Cinematic images with beautiful bokeh
Experience beautiful cinematic images, with the exceptional corner-to-corner resolution expected from a Sony G lens. A consistent T3.1 (F2.8) large aperture, from wide to telephoto, delivers stunning background bokeh and depth.
Responsive manual control
Adjust focus, zoom and iris with smooth, consistent precision. Parfocal optics and precise control rings provide versatile, repeatable cinematography with large-format cameras like the VENICE, PXW-FX9, and Alpha mirrorless cameras.
Highly versatile control
In addition to familiar manual control, the detachable servo unit gives you access to the latest film-making tools, unique to Sony's E-mount system. Leverage fast and precise autofocus for run-and-gun shooting, or powerful servo zoom, rack focusing and iris control - directly from your camera, remote or even smartphone, to enhance both creativity and workflow efficiency.
Resolution and bokeh raised to new heights
This lens features two Sony XA (extreme aspherical) elements with 0.01 micron surface precision. Distortion that tends to occur in wide-angle zoom lenses is meticulously controlled, as are astigmatism and field curvature. Unattractive onion-ring bokeh is effectively suppressed by XA (extreme aspherical) elements so that smooth, beautiful bokeh is achieved in out-of-focus areas.
Clarity and contrast in any light
Sony's original Nano AR Coating suppresses spurious reflections that can cause flare and ghosting in backlit and other challenging lighting situations, for consistently high contrast and clarity. Freedom from flare over a wide range of incident light angles provides greater framing and composing flexibility, particularly at wide-angle focal lengths. (1. Nano AR Coating / 2. Glass / 3. Transmitted light)
11 blades enhance bokeh beauty
Sony's original 11-blade circular aperture contributes to even greater bokeh quality. Design and materials have been revised to maintain a round shape, and strict circularity standards are applied to ensure that the full beauty of the lens's bokeh is achieved without compromise.
Precise, responsive manual focus
Linear Response MF enables smooth, lag-free manual focus, allowing DoPs and camera operators to adjust focus accurately and intuitively. The focus ring offers a 140deg large angle of rotation for finer control, with distance scale markers for consistent focus reset during multiple takes.
More options for content creators
The SELC1635G has an industry-standard 0.8mm pitch gear and 114mm lens diameter, providing compatibility with a wide range of accessories from matte boxes to follow-focus systems. The zoom ring rotation is also reversible to accommodate creators from select still image lens systems.
Detachable servo zoom
The included servo unit provides comfortable fingertip control for smooth, gradual zooms suitable for a slow moving drama or promotional video. Servo and Manual control are switchable by the button on the lens unit, and while set to servo, you can control zoom via camera’s handle or grip zoom. Also, the servo can be detached if preferred.
Fast, accurate AF and AE
The SELC1635G fully supports the Enhanced Hybrid phase/contrast detection autofocus (AF) and Auto Exposure (AE) capabilities of the FX9 full-frame camera. This breakthrough technology allows you to concentrate on framing while the camera and lens work seamlessly together to maintain focus on subjects with shallow depth of field.
Fast, precise autofocus
Dual piezoelectric DD-SSM (Direct Drive SuperSonic Motor) mechanisms drive the floating focus system. The proprietary Sony design actuates two independent focus groups for high speed and precision, as well as quiet movement. This makes it ideal for autofocus during movie recording, in addition to still image capture.
High reliability in harsh conditions
The overall design of this lens is dust and moisture resistant for extra protection and reliable operation in challenging environments. Shoot with confidence in light rain or windy conditions.
